The dance work "Nelangsa" is a reflection of concern about the loss of social and cultural values in the ngerewang tradition of the Merangin Regency community, Jambi. Ngerewang is a form of mutual cooperation in cooking activities during traditional ceremonies or weddings, which is rich in the values of togetherness and friendship. The phenomenon of modernization through the emergence of catering services shifted this tradition and gave rise to individualism. The methods for creating this work include field observation, interviews, exploration, and evaluation. The result of this creative process is realized in a dramatic type of dance work with a socio-cultural theme. This work visualizes the social transformation from the communal values of the ngerewang tradition toward an individualistic society through the symbols of movement, props, music, and body expression. This work is expected to raise awareness of the importance of preserving local cultural values in the face of modernization.
